  Function
Complete general maintenance responsibilities within the City of Chelsea in support on City operations.

Key Responsibilities and Duties
• Perform a variety of labor, maintenance, construction and repair tasks as needed related to City infrastructure
• Assist in City lawn care and park maintenance, snow plowing, storm sewer cleaning/repair, and street, tree and sidewalk maintenance
• Assist wastewater department with sanitary sewer maintenance and repairs
• Assist water department with water line maintenance and repairs
• Use City vehicles with care and skill
• Use necessary safety gear and precautions while performing City tasks
• Learn to effectively use tools and heavy equipment required to complete City maintenance tasks as needed
• Maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees
• Exhibit respectful customer service when interacting with customers, local business owners and residents
• Assist in weekly City trash and recycling collection
• Perform tasks required to help support City facilities
• Collect cash and support appropriate cash controls when working at the transfer station
• Be on call to assist with City emergencies
• Perform other related work as necessary to support the Public Utilities Service Division

Supervision Received
A maintenance employee in this position will perform their work under the supervision of the Public Works Superintendent.

Necessary Qualifications
A qualified candidate will demonstrate the following skills and background.
• Demonstrates considerable knowledge of street, sidewalk, water line, sewer line, building maintenance, parks and ground maintenance work
• Demonstrates considerable knowledge of general repair, maintenance and construction activities
• Holds a valid Michigan Commercial Driver’s License (Group A designation with air brake and tanker endorsement) or the ability to obtain one within a six-month time period and maintains thereafter as a condition of continued employment
• Attained a high school education or higher
• Demonstrates an ability to read maps, sketches and blueprints
• Demonstrates an ability to maintain and prepare accurate records
• Demonstrates an ability to effectively address resident, business owner and customer concerns
• Demonstrates an ability to clearly express oneself in speech and writing
